Dealing with employees with bad attitudes is not fun at all, and today I had a first encounter with an employee with a bad attitude. I’ve been working in Corporate America for a long time so it may be surprising to you to think this is the first encounter. But today, this was one of the worst attitudes I have ever come across. So, what to do? There are a few things you can do to improve employee attitudes while they are interacting with you.
Tips for dealing with employees with bad attitudes
Tip #1 – Use proper listening techniques to show the person that you do care about what they say and take their comments into consideration.
Tip #2 – Take some of their suggestions and implement them to show them you are listening.
Tip #3 – Build their trust by telling them you will do something and then make sure you get it done.
Tip #4 – Kill them with kindness. Yes, I hate to put this cliché statement on my tip but it’s true. Bad attitudes can bring you down if you don’t be careful.
Dealing with employees with bad attitudes can derail your day, don’t let it! Get in the proper mindset that you know what you will be facing before interacting with the person. Realize that it’s not you, it’s them. Realize that you can’t change a person, you can only change how you react to the person. Implement these tips and you will see your interactions with the person improve. Good luck!
